That still doesn't acount for "nubs". I'm thinking it's either a dumb noob or a shorter way of saying n00b.

All n00bs are dumb ¬_¬
Everything that sounds or looks like "Noob" has the same meaning.

People replace the u sound for oo, and vice versa, hadnt you noticed?

By the way, I forgot to mention the infamous, n00b00Nz.
Truly a terrifying creature, a mix of b00Nz with n00bs. Surely created by the evil Professor Piotr Alexeevich de Sousa Van Kropotkine Pérez at his palace of cheese and other delights, like porn.

*casts level 99 Uber L33t Necromancy of Threads*

Ahem, and o.O whoa. Truly scary, those n00b00nz and Dr. Perez.

But wouldn't b00nz be actually good players? Since they're the opposite of n00bz and all. Also, 'boon' is a word for something good, so that'd make sense. "Having b00nz on your team is a boon!"

Also: first post! Woo! I'd add more to this thread, but I've already got ideas for an Intermediate Guide to Gyrocopter Piloting, so I think I'd best take that to a new thread. It's cool to have found GCK's niche on the Internet, though.

are the definitions of noobs and all things that sound like it or look like it really that important to discuss on a gyrocopter thread?

btw, how do you pronounce noob? is it like door knob?

It's a double -o so it's pronounced with a -u as in "moon" or "boob".

There's an alternative explanation.

"Nub" could be short for "nubile", which has all the lack of experience of "noob" with the additional connotation of innocence. So not only does the nub not know anything, he's not willing to learn, because he doesn't know there's any learning to be done. A little schooling is enough to turn a nub into a newb, however, as a few stupid deaths will make him realize that he has some catching-up to do, but if he's treated callously he will quickly become a noob and refuse to learn.

Oh, and nubile is pronounced "noobile", so "nub" would be a homophone for "noob". Though I don't really think pronunciation matters very much, 'cos you're almost infinitely more likely to see this kind of talk in a chat window in-game. :D

I agree. It doesn't go into much detail, but it covers the important bases (pun intended).

I'm curious as to how you guys will like my Intermediate Guide :)
