The good old days of gaming with giants, who was there?

Post by FreakyGhost »

Hi everyone I don’t know if anyone is the same as me but I tend to think of the past and some of my memories slip to giants. I call them the good old days of gaming. I used to play games like giants (of course), MechWarrior, ghost recon, tribes 2, aliens vs. predator 2 and more... 8)
But when I think of all the good times playing these game I think and look out into the gaming market searching for a game that was as good and as fun as them! And I say to myself "nothing seem to compare to these!?" is it me or has the gaming world gone down in the years I’ve been alive? I think a lot of games have become samey, but every once and in while I get a great game jump out before me! That I buy and enjoy. But even so I still think what would happen if I could go back to the past now  and play like I used to play! Would it be as great to play them again like when they were in there prime?

A little bit of history about me!
From what I can recall I think Giants was the first or one of the first proper online games that i played (Also i got it when it first came out). I used to love playing it with lots of people online :D and I remember the first player to teach me mine jumping/hopping whatever they call it now? Come-on lets share our memories and oppinions on what iv said about gaming and of giants and see how far we can go back?

P.s Dam I sound so not like me when I get into the serious mood!

lol INFO time
im 14 years old..

when me dad bought a windows, he could choose to get a X-tra game or a program, he read that the game had good graphics, gameplay, ETC, so he naturely choose for game, by this time i was something like 6 years old, i didn't know squat about computers, games, so when i saw the game i was in love(lol), so i played it, together with rayman 2 it was one of mah first 3d games, i had alot of trouble playing out the SinglePlayer missions but i did it and shortly after that, my CD1 broke(scratches on disk)...

and by time i forgot giants... when i was 12/13 dont remember, i found the old disks and thought"hey, that was a great GAME!" so i downloaded it(i still have orginals so i think i have the right to download giants and own giants again), played SP(totaly forgot the Turbo, so i was again stunned how awsome it was) out, but this time, i actually understanded english, and i saw the MP button in the menu, i downloaded gamespy, and i found giantshell, but it was/still is broken and old, so i thought nobody played the game anymore, but then i found this site on 25 Jul 2008 and voila, now im a member and big fan of giants XD

is that enough info?, so i am an old giants player, but back then i never played online and didn't know squat about the patches, and back then u had sh** pc's and i didn't spoke english
but i am a NEW/not old(i think) Multiplayer player

Ok my tern again :D lol
I’m 16 years old...so I’m an even older giants gamer
Now I can’t remember the hole story but this is how it kind of goes -

Now my dad got a Pc something like a year or under a year before we got giants. At first I wasn’t all interested in the Pc and just stuck with my TV (which was my lazy fun if I didn’t feel like doing something else after a day of school), oh god that reminds me of the Pokémon craze day's  . But then he started buying different games giants was one of the first. (Now it gets detailed) When I first sore him bring the game back one day I was very interested in the case, due to it having some weird or what I called not normal charter back then. It went on with my dad playing the game and I watch from the corner of my eye when I was watching TV or just leaning over his shoulder.
Now if you dare read more your welcome to but I’ve got it long!
(Ok doing a paragraph so people can breathe :o )

Skipping some unneeded details >>> I started to play giants at first I found it so hard I played the training level where you have to get stop your friend from falling off a cliff so many time I can’t believe it now (my dad also found that the case to). But soon after getting used to giants in single player, I moved on to the hard rock of online play! Sometimes I found this more fun than playing single player due to it always being different each battle and funny (by the way I was about 7-8 years old as the game came out in 2000). (Ok...I’m drowning on a bit) Now After sometime I was much better and had completed the game by the then once or twice. But that’s when it all stopped. I remember sometime during my life that I stopped playing don’t know why but I just did but I probably played a bit everyone once and now then (this was probably because I started playing other games). Now some year on internet got bussed during us on holiday and I didn’t go on the internet for years so I ended up playing single player on all my games. This went on…and so on… anyway some years after getting my internet back >>> and playing loads of new games, then I starting playing it again AAANNDDD then I found this site (aged maybe around 14-15)! There I think that’s it. I had to write this fast lol so there is probably loads of mistakes.

Now that’s a life story about what happened with my giants, it sounds like I didn’t play it much but I did quite a bit. (ahh shut myself up)

I guess i havent got anymore to tell in the history side of my giants, but you never know 8)

I think life story’s are fun sometimes can be funny to look back on or very interesting to read about. It is kind of half of what the forum is about is sharing your giants memory’s but it is going feather then I thought it would and has become a life story forum page lol. The other half of the forum was post to be about how games have changed over the years and are they still as fun as they used to be. But it looks like that bit has been dropped lolz.

Anyway OMG the list is getting older 14>16>19 I wonder if it goes up any more? If I counted my dad it would go much higher but he doesn’t really play much he only sometimes dose when I ask him to.

Hmm the next question would be whose female and male on the giantwd website and forum and how many female and male fans has giants got. I wonder

When I bought Giants, I had a Geforce 2 MX400 32MB, and it really struggled with the framerate.. I bought it about a month after it was released, I think it came out sooner in other countries.

I think Giants would still be popular if it were re-released today, because of its humor and originality. It's graphics are relatively simple, but they were way ahead in terms of beauty when it was first released.
I'll raise the bar a bit, I'm almost 28 ;)
