Speedrunners wanted

Post by Nullpointer »

Over there at SpeedDemosArchive there's a cash bounty for the first person to do a good speedrun of Giants.

If you're interested beware that the quality requirements are rather high since the aim is to get a speed run *accepted*. You need to achieve good gameplay quality (better than the average experienced player; this includes using every known beneficial trick excluding those that are explicitly forbidden such as cheats) and good video quality.

About cheats, how would they consider rocket jumping and the jetpack enhancements (in 1.5)?

They jetpack is an upgrade, not a cheat, and the rocket jumping it's only a trick that only the experienced players know. A cheat would be having unlimited jetfuel or some kind of this.

I'm asking since it's an unofficial patch, regardless of our stance towards it along with rocket jumping, it doesn't mean that the people of SpeedDemonArchive will agree with us.

I certainly wouldn't be suprised of them being critical with a cash reward in the mix.

The problem with 1.5 is more that it's unofficial than what changes it brings.

As regards rocket jumping, it's not a cheat/hax, it's part of the gameplay.

To clarify a few things:
* Using fan-made patches is generally not permitted. There are exceptions but anything that alters the game mechanics beyond what's possible in official versions certainly won't be accepted.
* Besides that, you can use any official version you like, including the unpatched retail version to abuse glitches they fixed later such as the turbo map glitch.
* Tricks and glitches may be freely used and must be used if they are beneficial. Thus using rocket jumping or the turbo map glitch are perfectly legal.
* Cheats and trainers, including 1.0/1.1 debug mode, aren't allowed.
