I was inspired by Sprinkz, and decided to write about something I know about.
A Beginners Guide to Gyrocopters
The uses of a Gyrocopter
You can use a Gyrocopter for pretty much anything you like. However, they are particularly useful for providing support for teammates on the ground who are getting massacred, killing kabuto, and ferrying people around the map. They are also useful for destroying enemy buildings, but turrets are a pain in the ass when you do that.
Flying
Before you can use a Gyrocopter effectivly, you need to be able to fly one! The controls are relatively simple, use the normal movement controls on the keyboard to move backwards and farwards, and sideways, then use the mouse to steer. Thats about it, but here are a few tips that will help you have a little more control.
You may also find it useful to fly in third person view so you can see what your chopper is doing.
Turning - You will notice that if you turn just with the mouse, you tend to carry on drifting the the same direction you were travelling in.
When you turn, use the strafe key of the direction you want to turn while useing the mouse to turn the chopper round. I find this helps to get rid of the drift you encounter when turning.
Landing - Landing can be a pain in the ass sometimes, and I have seen people severely damage there chopper when landing.
The key is to take it steady. Don't plummet to the ground, but use the right mouse button to slow your fall. You'll master it after a little practice.
Thats about it for flying.
Attacking
Attacking is one the easiest things to do in a chopper, just blast away at anyone really, though here are some tips.
Using the machine gun - The Machine Gun is particularly effective against kabuto, but also for killine people on the ground, though this is harder and best left to your teammates on the ground.
It's easiest to go into first person view when firing the machine gun. Try and stay close, and don't waste your ammo. You only get 150 shots, and they fire off fairly quickly. Only fire when you know you stand a good chance of hitting your target!
If you want to prctice, host a game on your own, and hunt some vimp. This may sound stupid, but it's a great way of practicing hitting ground targets. You may even want to kill smarties too.
The bombs - The bombs are useful for bombarding enemy troops to throwq them off, and for destroying buildings. Again, go into first person view when firing, and try and get a good shot in. You only get 3 bombs, which sucks a bit, but life's a bitch!
Bomba can also take significant amounts of life off kabuto, but only if you get a good hit. Direct hits are best, so snatch your opputunities when they arise. Try to get Kabuto when he is staning still eating or destoying something. Thats the best opportunity.
Killing Reapers - Reapers are a pain in the ass, and should be banned, but unfortunately that won't happen.
The best time to get reapers is when they are swimming in the sea. The can't shoot at you when swimming!
They do gain health when in the water, so you have to accurate, and try to kill her before she gets out of the water. If she gets out, your dead!
Other Important Stuff
Homing Missiles
When flying a chopper, always take some flares! If you are on the wing of a chopper, take flares.
Choppers are usually a prime target for homing missiles, and SAM turrets are also a pain in the ass! It is far harder to dodge homing missile when in a chopper, so if you think your about to blown out of the sky, and your out of flares, eject! This will save you some healt, and allow you to maybe get a kill in before you die. You may even survive!
Ferrying people around
If you didn't already know this, you can fit an extra two people on your wings.
The best rout to take when acting as a taxi is out to sea. Fly fairly low, and not too far in to land. This will keep you out of the way of most homing missiles and turrets, and you have less chance of being spotted.
It's also useful to be able to swim with a jetpack in caser you get shot down. Remember, take flares!
Thats about it.
If there s anything you think I'v missed out, let me know.
